Web Pages and Pics

Where can I upload pics to use for my characters? 
A lot of free Web space providers no longer allow you to use pic links from their sites. Among these are 50Megs.Com, FortuneCity, Homepage.Com, Xoom and Tripod.

On the other hand, you can still use other sites for pics. If you know of other places that permit this, let me know and I'll add them to this FAQ.

There are a few sites that allow you to use their sites for pics, but they inevitably lag the chat rooms due to long load times, so we suggest you don't use them. These include GO Network's space and Geocities.

Where can I set up homepages for my characters?
Any of the page providers above, as well as others, can grant you space for Web pages. There are some places we don't recommend, due to lag or system problems. Among those are GO Network and WebProvider.

Some of the better ones for homepages include:

• Crosswinds (unlimited)

• FortuneCity (20MB)

• Geocities (15MB)

• InternetTrash

• Homepage.Com (11MB)

• Netscape Site Central (11MB)

• Tripod (11MB)

Should I make separate Web space for my pics and my homepage? 
That's always a good alternative. It allows you to choose one site for your homepage based on the things you need for that, and choose another site for pics. 

Will IMC ever provide space for members for pics and homepages? 
At this point, the answer is no. The issue here is really bandwidth -- we pay quite a bit for our connection to the 'net, and recently, we're coming pretty close to maxing out our pipe. THis means we're upgrading, but the alternatives are expensive, and we're not going to accept advertising, so we're limited to what we can afford out of our own pockets and member donations.

If there comes a time when we can afford a dedicated pipe with no data transfer limits (which is extremely expensive), we'll look into doing this.
